09/09/2009 11:19 AM
With a suspension order in effect on its fleet following Sunday’s SuperFerry 9 tragedy, Aboitiz Transport Systems was warned Wednesday against continuing to sell tickets.Transportation Undersecretary Thompson Lantion said the suspension on selling tickets is part of the show-cause order served by the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) on ATS."Nasa show cause order, kasama sa pagsuspindi. So sa management, dapat gawin nilang hakbangin wala nang pamimigay o pamamahagi ng ticket (It is included in the show cause order. So it is up to management to stop selling tickets for its SuperFerry fleet)," Lantion said in an interview on dzBB radio.Lantion said it is up to ATS management to refund the tickets already bought for trips that may be affected by the suspension. On Tuesday, Marina served a show cause order suspending ATS’ operations following the tilting and subsequent sinking of SuperFerry 9 off Zamboanga Peninsula last Sunday. At least 10 people had died in the incident, according to the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC)’s report as of 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Lantion said there is no timetable for the suspension, which he said will be in effect while the investigation into Sunday’s incident is ongoing."Magkakaroon ng pagdinig yan, simula sa Sept. 15. Pansamantala until further notice ang show cause order," he said. (There will be a hearing that will start Sept. 15. That will continue until ATS complies with the requirements that will come out after the investigation. The show cause order will be in effect until further notice.) Lantion said that during the suspension, ATS’ ships may have to undergo dry dock, maintenance, and inspection.Motion for reconsiderationLantion, however, said ATS has filed a motion for reconsideration after it received the notice of suspension.ATS pointed its SuperFerry 1 was still bringing 63 survivors from Iloilo to Manila, while SuperFerry 12 is coming from Cebu and SuperFerry 19 is coming from Davao. But Lantion said that once these three vessels reach their home port, they will not be allowed to travel. He added they will not be allowed to carry paying passengers while en route to their home ports.Meanwhile, the Public Attorney’s Office said it is ready to help the survivors and the kin of fatalities in the tragedy.Radio dzBB’s Carlo Mateo reported that PAO head Persida Acosta advised victims and their kin to lodge complaints against ATS before the PAO office in Quezon City.Acosta said their lawyers are ready to assist the victims in getting compensation from ATS. - GMANews.TV

There were conflicting reports on the actual number of people on board the vessel. In its 5 a.m. update, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported that 966 of the 968 people on board the sunken SuperFerry 9 have been accounted for and two people were still missing. [See story: SuperFerry sinks off Zamboanga] Working together The SuperFerry management has joined forces with government agencies in the rescue and retrieval efforts. Aside from the Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard, at least three other government agencies helped in the rescue operations, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) said. The Department of Social Welfare and Development is assisting the local government in Siocon in providing technical resources and food packs to the survivors. The Department of Health has mobilized medical teams to attend to the survivors while the Philippine National Red Cross is providing first aid and psychosocial assistance. The Red Cross is also transporting survivors in need of immediate care to nearby hospitals. SuperFerry management has been providing food, clothes and blankets to the survivors. Marine board to probe accidentIn a report on QTV’s Balitanghali, Cesar Apolinario said that although the Coast Guard is still uncertain of the cause of the tragedy, cargo overloading has been overruled. He added that after the search and rescue operations are over, the Board of Marine Inquiry will investigate the accident, looking into engine failure and bad weather as the primary causes for the incident. The Coast Guard said the vessel was carrying 2900,000 liters of oil products when it departed from Manila for Iloilo and General Santos City.“(But) no dangerous or hazardous cargo was declared to be onboard MV SuperFerry 9," it said.Coast Guard spokesman Cmdr. Armand Balilo also said that Jose Yap, captain of the SuperFerry 9, will be questioned once the rescue operations are over.

No stranger to dangerThe fate of SuperFerry 9 is not entirely a surprise, since it had already encountered several mishaps in the past. Just this May, this same ship was stranded off the coast of Camiguin province for more than 12 hours due to engine problems. (See: SuperFerry ship with 900 passengers stranded off Camiguin)In February 2007, the ship conked out southwest of Daog Point on Negros Island on the way from Bacolod City to Iligan City in Mindanao, and had to be hauled to shore by another ship. Engine problems were also blamed for the interruption. It said 268 survivors were rescued aboard the MV Ocean Integrity; 439 aboard MV Myriad; 170 aboard Philippine Navy vessels; and 23 aboard fishing boat Sierra.“All the survivors and casualties have been brought to Zamboanga City where Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao and ATSC management along with other concerned agencies and volunteers will formally account and render medical and other necessary forms of assistance to survivors and families of the victims," the Coast Guard said. The Coast Guard report said SuperFerry 9 listed to approximately 35 degrees towards her starboard side until she reportedly sank at vicinity 9.5 nautical miles west of Banga Point in Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte. It said the vessel was recorded to have been carrying 847 passengers, four sea marshals, and 117 crew. Newsbreak: Coast Guard sends oil-response crew to SuperFerry sinking site
09/06/2009 03:10 PM
The Philippine Coast Guard on Sunday sent a ship with oil-spill response capabilities to Zamboanga Peninsula, where a SuperFerry vessel listed and sank hours earlier.Coast Guard commandant Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo said the ships have instructions to monitor the area where the SuperFerry 9 sank for any possible oil spill.“Since she is traveling from General Santos City to Iloilo, there’s still some considerable amount of fuel on board. We have already sent out ships led by BRP Corregidor to undertake monitoring and oil spill response operations as necessary," Tamayo said in an interview on dzBB radio.Meanwhile, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) said a hole in the hull may have been the cause of the ship’s sinking. [See story: 4 dead, 84 others missing as SuperFerry sinks off Zambo] In its report, NDCC said the ship listed 9.5 nautical miles west of Bonga Point in Siocon town in Zamboanga del Norte at about 4 a.m., “allegedly due to a hole in the hull."The NDCC said the SuperFerry 9 had 847 passengers and 112 crew members on board. On the other hand, Tamayo told government-run dzRB radio that as of 11:55 a.m., at least 88 people from the SuperFerry 9 remain unaccounted for.He said the others have been accounted for, including 258 rescued by the “Ocean Integrity," 441 by SuperFerry 9’s sister ship “Myriad," and171 by the Philippine Navy’s gunboat. While Tamayo confirmed three fatalities from the vessel, Navy spokesman Lt. Col. Edgard Arevalo said a Navy ship recovered at least one more fatality.SuperFerry 9 sank off Zamboanga Peninsula Sunday morning, hours after it began to list while en route from General Santos City to Iloilo. Also, Arevalo said the ship’s captain, Jose Yap, is now in Navy custody, adding that the skipper was among those rescued and brought aboard Navy ship 116.Initial investigation showed Yap gave the order to abandon ship at about 4 a.m.‘Among best captains’Andrew Deyto, SuperFerry assistant vice president for sales and marketing, said Yap had been one of Aboitiz Transport Systems’ “best captains."“He has been with us for so many years, (he’s) one of our best captains around," Deyto said at a press conference.Deyto also vouched for the safety of SuperFerry 9, saying it was the first ship to be awarded an International Safety Management (ISM) certificate in 1996.He also said the vessel last went into dry-dock in June 2007, and its next drydock is due in the first quarter of 2010.But only in May this year, over 900 passengers of SuperFerry 9 were left stranded off Camiguin province when the ship’s engine conked out. In the meantime, Deyto said relatives of passengers can call Aboitiz at 5287000. He said they are still setting up hotlines in Iloilo and General Santos to accommodate passengers’ kin.Palace's orderIn Malacañang, meanwhile, deputy presidential spokesman Anthony Golez Jr. said President Arroyo ordered Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. to send military assets to rescue the passengers.“Dahil sa utos ng pangulo kay Sec. Teodoro maraming nasalba at nakakatuwa naman dahil mabilis ang action ng Coast Guard, ng Navy at Air Force (Because of the president’s order to Teodoro, many lives were saved because of the quick action of the Coast Guard, Navy and Air Force)," he said on government-run dzRB radio.Golez also said the Department of Social Welfare and Development is coordinating with the Office of the Civil Defense to help survivors and relatives. He added the DSWD and Department of Health are instructed to give assistance immediately to the injured and to the relatives of the fatalities. - GMANews.TV

Nine people died while hundreds were rescued when a passenger ship sank Sunday morning after tilting for several hours in Siocon Bay near the Zamboanga Peninsula, the Philippine Coast Guard said.In its 9 p.m. report, the Coast Guard said 926 people were rescued from the incident. Search and rescue operations, meanwhile, continue for the 33 who are still missing as of posting time.Only two of the nine fatalities have so far been identified: two-year-old James Patrick Galero and Fernando Estrada, 45.The Coast Guard said 265 survivors were rescued aboard the MV Ocean Integrity, 446 aboard MV Myriad, 170 aboard Philippine Navy vessels, 26 aboard fishing boat Sierra, and 19 aboard fishing boat Julius.
SUPERFERRY 9: NO STRANGER TO DANGER
The fate of SuperFerry 9, owned by Aboitiz Transport System, is not entirely a surprise. The vessel, which sank off Zamboanga Sunday morning had already encountered several mishaps in the past. Last May, SuperFerry 9 was stranded off the coast of Camiguin province for more than 12 hours due to engine problems. (See: SuperFerry ship with 900 passengers stranded off Camiguin)In February 2007, the ship conked out southwest of Daog Point on Negros Island while on its journey from Bacolod City to Iligan City in Mindanao. Engine problems were also blamed for the interruption. It needed another ship to haul the ill-fated SuperFerry 9 to shore. (See: SuperFerry stalls near Negros)More...
Ongoing rescue opsAside from Navy ships, three military aircrafts were also deployed to scour the seas, according to Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro, who also heads the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC).American troops providing counter-terrorism training to Philippine soldiers in Mindanao likewise deployed a civilian helicopter and five boats, some carrying paramedics, to help, US Col. William Coultrup said.In a news conference earlier in the day, Coast Guard chief Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo said initial investigation showed that the ship left General Santos City at 8:45 a.m. Saturday and was heading for Iloilo when it began having problems with its generator. [See earlier story: Ship tilts off Zamboanga Peninsula] Citing initial reports, Tamayo said SuperFerry 9's generator fluctuated several times. Authorities said they would investigate the cause of the sinking as soon as search and rescue operations are over.According to the ship's owner, Aboitiz Transport System Corp. (ATSC), assistance including medical treatment, hotel accommodation and transport will be provided for the ship's passengers and crew. 32. He was interviewed by Mr. Derf Maiz of GMA Davao 09 September 2009.
33. Ryan Christopher Paz – met her mother at SuperFerry office 09 September 2009; assuring her that her son is very much alive.
34. Jonas Redillas
35. Felomino Olivo – not so much of senior age and according to him, pinagtutulak nya ang ibang mga matatanda para makatalon lang sa tubig dahil papalubog na ang barko.
Room 405
Successful na nagkita sila ng baby niya 09 September 2009 as seen on tv. Thanks God.
According to the hotel staff, 42 kaming lahat na nakacheck-in sa Marcian Business Hotel. Two survivors, a father & his son, left the hotel a day after, 07 September 2009 to Ilo-Ilo. I personally met them when they asked for permission to go ahead with their plan.

About 2:30 PM ~ past 5:00 PM
About 6:30 PM

07 September 2009 (Monday)
I refuse for obvious and personal reason. Hindi ko sana isusulat ito and I won’t take the credit, it’s God.
Ang iba dadaan muna sa Cebu to Davao at may Manila to Davao. "Everyone prepare for our flight tomorrow."
09 September 2009 (Wednesday)

5:00 AM
5:00 AM
Ready to go to the airport na kaming lahat. Sakay sa bus, we bid goodbye to the hotel staff at nagpasalamat sa kanila.
5:30 AM
5:30 AM
6:30 AM
6:30 AM
At makakarating ako diyan bago maglunch.”
11:30 AM
11:30 AM
Narating ko ang bahay ng aking kapatid. Kuwentuhan at pasasalamat. Pagkatanghalian ay nagpahinga ako. Maaga akong natulog sa gabing ito.

Ang Paglubog ng SuperFerry 9 at Ang Kaligtasan

06 September 2009 (Sunday)
At or About 2:00 AM
About 5:15 AM hanggang 9:30 AM
At or About 2:00 AM
